Synthesised Music
I really began producing music on a computer way back in the late 1980s, when I was a mere 12 year old. My dad and I went to a BBC Micro User show in London and came back with a Music 500 synthesiser. Other than playing the demos I never really got into it until the Music 5000 music software came out which made using it much easier. I moved into MIDI with the Music 2000 MIDI interface and continued to produce music on my BBC Micro up until 1992 when I moved to a PC.
On the PC I found myself using WhackerTracker - a 4 channel MOD composer. I moved up to FastTracker II and was quite prolific using that during the mid-90s. I came 11th in a world-wide competition of over 150 entries (Music Contest IV) with one of my FastTracker II compositions (Broadband Shuffle).
I moved away from synth music for a bit (my foray into rock and learning guitar) but moved back toward it again when I got Cakewalk Sonar. I produced a few pieces of music, but found it very difficult to get the sound I was after.
More recently, I've moved over to Propellerheads Reason, which is my current favourite. Sadly, I don't get a lot of time to make music, but when I do, I find Reason is so easy to get a decent sounding track really quickly. I have most often used it for making music for my videos. For example, the OpenIMAJ video used this soundtrack:
